Ranging from 26 to 41 in long, and 10 to 16 in tall at the shoulders, male clouded leopards can be more than twice the size of females. This makes for the largest gender size difference in the cat family, while their canine teeth are the longest, relative to body size, of any feline. Because they are good swimmers, it is thought that they may have populated small islands off Vietnam and Borneo in this way.
The clouded leopard is known as the tree tiger in Malaysia, and in China, it is referred to as the mint leopard since its spots resemble mint leaves.
POPULATION STATUS VULNERABLE: Clouded leopards are classified as vulnerable and it is estimated that there are fewer than 10,000 of these elusive cats left in the wild. They are victims of habitat destruction and poaching. They have experienced a fast rate of deforestation and are hunted for their teeth, pelt and bones.
